State Funding Validates JPH’s Role as a Grassroots Force for Community Mental Health across Boston’s South Shore
Marshfield, MA — September 9, 2025 — The James P. Harrington Organization (JPH) announced today that it has been awarded a $250,000 state earmark in the Massachusetts FY26 budget—the third consecutive year the nonprofit has received this critical funding. The earmark, championed by State Senator Patrick O’Connor with strong support from local legislators, underscores the South Shore delegation’s commitment to advancing accessible mental health and holistic wellness resources.
“JPH Organization at Ferry Hill is a staple non-profit in Marshfield that places distinct emphasis on the betterment of yourself, and those around you” said State Senator Patrick M. O’Connor(R-Weymouth.). “I have had the privilege of working closely alongside JPH and their invaluable staff throughout my time in office and the work that they do is life changing. I’m very pleased to have been able to secure JPH $250,000 in the Fiscal Year 2026 Senate Budget and looking forward to our continued collaboration and to seeing the development that takes place at JPH going forward.”
The James P. Harrington Organization (JPH) is a nonprofit dedicated to building a stronger, healthier community through holistic programs rooted in compassion, connection, and care. From its retreat-like center on the South River in Marshfield, JPH provides free and affordable wellness programs that foster reflection, restoration, and growth. Since 2020, JPH has raised and invested more than $300,000 to revitalize its historic Ferry Hill property, transforming it into a welcoming, inclusive space for mental well-being and community connection across the South Shore.
“This ongoing state support is a powerful affirmation of our work and the impact it has on our community,” said Beth Winn, Development Director at JPH. “These funds allow us to continue important upgrades to our historic Ferry Hill property, ensuring it remains a nurturing space for healing and connection for many years to come.”
JPH is the only known organization of its kind on the South Shore, offering alternative healing and wellness resources that are accessible to all, regardless of financial circumstances. Trusted by local hospitals, therapy offices, recovery centers, and community organizations, JPH is becoming a regional leader in holistic mental health and self-care practices.
The $250,000 earmark will directly support upgrades and improvements to JPH’s historic Ferry Hill property in Marshfield. These enhancements are essential to maintaining a safe, welcoming, and accessible environment for the diverse wellness programs that serve individuals and families throughout the South Shore.
“JPH was created by people who once needed this kind of support for themselves or their loved ones—and couldn’t find it. We built what we wish had existed: a place where healing, connection, and hope are always within reach. We are honored to be part of something so meaningful, and I’m endlessly grateful to everyone who has helped bring this vision to life.” — Diana (Harrington) Scolponeti, Executive Director, JPH.
The JPH Center at Ferry Hill provides low and no‑cost holistic programs facilitated by licensed professionals and holistic practitioners. The center offers safe spaces and serene environments where individuals and families can focus on well‑being without distraction. Opportunities such as volunteerism, team participation, and group workshops help strengthen community ties, reflecting JPH’s belief that connection itself is a form of wellness.
Funded primarily by grants and donations and powered by volunteers, JPH continues to grow as a grassroots force for healing. The organization is actively seeking donations, sponsorships, and new volunteers to keep the momentum going.
