Finding Family Wellness with JPH at Ferry Hill

Charity Spotlight - Marshfield Neighbors

The James P Harrington (JPH) Organization is a nurturing and inclusive community of wellness, healing, and transformation. It was founded in September 2022 by a group of local families who all experienced moments when they needed more community support, whether for themselves or for a loved one. They had navigated major life interruptions, such as mental or emotional health needs, without support or guidance. This process felt isolating, overwhelming, and confusing, and when additional services were required, they were often expensive and unattainable. This led to a shared purpose to help the community by providing affordable and equitable family wellness programming.

As a peer-to-peer, community-driven support network for South Shore families, JPH offers integrated adult and youth wellness programs and other non-clinical support services that promote personal growth and lifelong learning through self-empowerment. Volunteers, wellness professionals and board members give their time and use their experience, as well as specific trainings they have received, to assist individuals in their personal growth and wellness. The JPH Organization actively manages JPH at Ferry Hill, formerly known as the Ferry Hill Center and, prior to that, the Marshfield YWCA. Last year, the JPH Organization served over 2,000 families through its various programs which include support groups, community building events, wellness programs, workshops and retreats along with youth summer programming.

Individual contributions, foundation grants, and proceeds from events are the primary sources of funding for JPH. As a community-driven initiative, the JPH model thrives when everyone pitches in. Volunteering is the best way to feel connected, meet new people and learn about the community. Marshfield residents are encouraged to participate in our programming and spread the word about our initiative. Information about the movement for family wellness can be found on jphcommunity.org.
