Creating Space to Slow Down, Connect, and Reset

After a demanding week of tryouts, the Marshfield High School Boys Soccer team recently joined JPH for a wellness experience designed to give student athletes an opportunity to slow down, reconnect, and reset before the start of the new school year.

Welcomed into the rustic barn overlooking the peaceful JPH property, the team began with a short substance abuse prevention conversation focused on the impact substance use can have on mental health, relationships, and athletic performance. The discussion created an opportunity for the athletes to consider the choices they make, the pressures they may face, and the importance of having healthy ways to cope.

The team then transitioned into an athletic stretch yoga session, using movement and breath to release tension and bring greater awareness to their bodies. This was followed by a guided meditation, giving the athletes a chance to quiet their minds and experience a moment of stillness.

The experience concluded with a grounding session introducing the science and practice of earthing and grounding. The athletes learned how spending intentional time outdoors and connecting with nature can support relaxation, mindfulness, and overall well being. They were encouraged to slow down, notice their surroundings, and recognize the simple ways nature can provide a meaningful break from the mental and emotional demands of daily life.

As part of the program, the team also had the opportunity to explore some of the walking paths at JPH. Spending time outdoors gave the athletes space to breathe, unplug, talk, laugh, and connect with one another outside of the soccer field.

The experience at JPH gave the Marshfield Boys Soccer team an opportunity to build awareness, practice healthy coping strategies, strengthen their connection with one another, and discover simple tools they can carry with them into the school year and throughout the soccer season.
